For me, the months of May and June have been rambunctious and filled with far more hard work and creation than I anticipated I'd have while navigating uncertain emotional waters, reflecting upon grief and the prospect of change. These months and the next one to follow are transitional as I begin to put more effort into art as well as to making physical changes in my life.
I will be embarking on quite the art journey from here on out with participating in art shows and joining an art program within the city. I didn't imagine myself to ever "be" an artist and I'm not even sure if I associate with that word yet, but what I can say for certain is that art has played a significant role in my emotional growth as of late and has provided me unexpected inspiration for other fields of my life.
Next month, I will be having TWO art showcases: "Women in Color" (at the Music Resource Center) and "Bark and Leaves" (at Rapunzel's Coffee & Books). I'm nervous for all of the work I still have left to do, as well as all of the transitions that are undergoing in my life, but within that nervousness also exists a glimmer of certainty in knowing that regardless of what the outcome is "I'm trying."
Logistical details of the events:
"Women in Color" will be up starting July 6th, 2018 (for First Fridays in Charlottesville) through the month of July at the Music Resource Center. The opening reception / public hours for the show will be on July 6th from 5:30-7:30PM.
"Bark and Leaves" will be up starting July 13th, 2018 (kicking off an Open Mic Night) through the months of July and August at Rapunzel's Coffee & Books in Lovingston, VA. The opening reception for the show will be on July 13th from 5:30-7:30PM before an open mic night featuring some talented local musicians.
